A Lecturer from the University of Zakho Participated in the International Women’s Peace Conference in Seoul-Korea

On September 18, 2023, Ms. Diman Z. Sami Jakhsi, from Zakho University, College of Engineering, participated in the International Women’s Peace Conference in Seoul-Korea, organized by (HWPL) in collaboration with the International Youth Peace Group (IYPG) and the International Women's Peace Group (IWPG).

The conference aims to raise awareness about the multi-dimensional role of women in sustainable peace and the importance of implementing these resolutions in the world. Additionally, the rationale behind the conference is to give attention to the situation for women and their concern over peace and development and to strengthen their role in promoting ideas on equality, contemporary topics and methods, and comprehensive education of university teachers in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and in the world.

To clarify, More than 140 countries participated in the conference, including nearly 1,000 government officials, presidents, educators, and heads of civil society organizations, notably, Zakho University is the first university in the Kurdistan Region to participate in HWPL conference.

Furthermore, the program consisted of (6) different academic workshops, (1) training workshop on global peace education and (1) negotiation workshop on education prepared by university lecturer entitled “Empowering Peace through Education: A Journey from Kurdistan Region, Iraq”,
coupled with several visits to supporting museums.

Moreover, the organization strives to build a large network of teachers, trainers and students, and also make this course a core subject in all universities and schools around the world. Consequently, Zakho University in coordination with HWPL organization will teach an official subject called Peace Education in the College of Education and College of Basic Education.
